Gausman's Cubs debut could come against Blue Jays

Sportsnet Central breaks down the big-time move that will see Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman heading to Wrigley Field to join the Chicago Cubs in return for Ty Southisene and Brett Bateman.

Kevin Gausman's first start with his new club might come against his old club.

Gausman was traded from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Chicago Cubs in a deal agreed to Sunday night.

He last pitched on Saturday, which lines up his next start for Thursday when the Cubs host the Blue Jays in a makeup game after a June rainout.

The Cubs have not confirmed their pitching plans yet, and David Peterson is another candidate to start as he would also be on normal rest.

But it sure would be poetic — and dramatic — if Gausman toes the rubber against the same former teammates that he competed with for the last five seasons.
